Now you may remember that July 1954 when Cesi Bon won the Durban July? Well the Monday night before the race I woke my husband at about 2 a.m. and said to him –
“Remember this, I have just been to the Durban July Race. Somebody handed me a piece of paper and on it in a childish handwriting in carbon was written "Cesi Bon won the Durban July," and then somebody shouted "Yes Radlington second and Spey Bridge third," and then another voice shouted "No Spey Bridge second and Radlington third."
After the race was run I heard the same mistake made by Ernie Duffield over the air and if I remember correctly it was a photo-finish. Now this was not like a dream. I was just there alive; it was vivid and real. Naturally we cashed in and I told all my friends. Well they just did not believe me but were very sorry afterwards.
