My next example of straightforward ESP dates back to the spring of 1926. My husband came in early from the War Office and said during tea, on the spur of the moment, 'I've just heard that I can't have my leave till the autumn. What about taking a house in Wimbledon for the summer to get some tennis in the evenings? We might ask Mary (a friend who lived there) to have particulars sent us from the local agent.'
But Mary whom we had known do this sort of thing before, did not wait to be asked. By the first post next morning came a sheaf of houses 'to let' from the Wimbledon Hamptons, and we also got a message from her that, having picked up my husband's wish as she walked home from work, she had turned into the local Hamptons which was on her way and had them sent to us.
