David Foster
A control system must have a fundamental tempo many times faster than the controlled process, since it has to anticipate every eventuality and possibility and it has to also have a reserve time for 'thinking'. This can only be so if the controlling software works in a quite different and faster time scale than the hardware – the faster the vibration the more the potential information content.
