Background
People learn differently. Some like to learn by applying what they have learnt to a practical problem. Some like to concentrate on a single subject for a long time, immersion in the subject until they feel they have grasped what they need to know. Some like to be told and given structure to their learning, some like to find out for themselves letting their curiosity drive the direction of study. Some like learning by themselves in a quiet place, some thrive in company. At the moment ordinary state schools offer no choice, Comenius envisaged an entirely different approach
A description of the experience
Though these schools be different, we do not wish them to teach different things, but rather the same things in a different manner. I mean, all things which can make men truly men, and the learned truly learned……. Everything should be arranged to suit the capacity of the pupil, which increases naturally with study and age.
