The Lion
I caught a lion yesterday, what shall I do with him?
So loath to cage a noble beast, I yearn to keep him in.
I’ll make the day seem usual as he reclines so still,
but late tonight will call the stars to bend him to my will.
He’ll watch my silken covers fall as I reveal my best,
and rise in lazy longing when I offer him my breast.
The lightest touch upon his mane will draw his heart to mine,
so gladly in my cage he’ll stay, yes that is my design.
When comes the night and I step out adorned in gold and red,
I see no lion but a man stretched out upon my bed.
I touch his brow, his lips, his heart and hear his breath so deep,
and lay myself beside him to be drawn into his sleep.
His sleep comes lapping over me and floating on its waves
I hear him bid me in his dream descend into a cave.
I gladly go to seek him there, to join him and break free,
and as I go I bless the day the lion captured me.
