Transcendental Music
22-nd case. - Mrs. L. C. Gilmour, of Borckville (Canada), sends to Light (1921, page 373) the following account of a fact that occurred in March of the same year:
A sick man's condition suddenly worsened, and his family, who were Catholic, sent for the parish priest. Unfortunately, the priest was also seriously ill. However, showing true Christian heroism, he wanted to get up and rush to the bedside of his dying parishioner. After having completed his service, the poor priest felt so exhausted by the effort he had made that he was no longer able to stand up and had to go to bed in the house itself, where, after a short agony, he gave his soul back to God. At the moment of his death, a music of paradise resounded in the house.
The Light's Editor-in-chief expressed the following considerations afterwards:
The lady who wrote the account that we have just read does not belong to the Roman Catholic confession - which constitutes an additional guarantee of the impartiality of her testimony. For us, it shows in an eloquent way that in the spiritual world the virtue of sacrifice and goodness of soul are appreciated, outside of any religious denomination.
