The Healing power of Herbal teas – Ceres Esplan

Bearberry – Arctostaphylos uva-ursi – Burren myrtle, Dogberry, Moanagus, Kinnikinik.  Bearberry only grows in the Northern hemisphere.  It is a creeping evergreen shrub with leathery leaves and white or pink flowers.  Preferring sandy, gravelly soils, it is found n moors or mountains and forms dark mats of tough leaves.

The leaves have a very old tradition of being useful for the treatment of bladder inflammation and are gathered and dried to be sold by herbalists and health stores.  Bearberry tea is made in the usual way ie one ounce to one pint of boiling water and is an antiseptic and very strong astringent.  The leaves must be kept completely dry.

The tea is widely recommended for many urinary troubles and is said to improve the tne of the urinary passages as well as to alleviate the pain and discomfort of the inflamed bladder and urethra for cystitis patents.
