Anise tea - The Healing power of herbs – Ceres Esplan
Anise of Aniseed (Pimpinella anisum), This aromatic plant is cultivated primarily for its seeds. It can be grown in gardens but flourishes best in warmer Mediterranean countries where the seed ripens freely.
Aniseed is used as a flavouring herb in many ways and a tisane made by pouring water over a small amount of crushed seed or young leaves – the strength being governed purely by taste – acts as a digestive and in some cases as an expectorant herbal infusion.
It is said to be particularly helpful for hacking coughs and it is certainly loved, when sweetened with a little honey, by babies.
Aniseed tisane makes a very palatable and refreshing drink and it is delicious taken either hot or iced.
If Aniseed is planted in the garden, it should be carefully watched as the seeds begin to ripen because once really ripe the seeds fall and are lost
