LSD Doorway to the Numinous – Dr Stanislav Grof
One of the important core experiences that Peter uncovered in his LSD therapy was a memory of being locked by his mother in a dark cellar and denied food while the other members of the family were feasting. The reliving of this memory was triggered quite unexpectedly by the angry barking of a dog that ran by the open window of the treatment room. The analysis of this event showed an interesting relationship between the external stimulus and the activated memory. Peter recalled that the cellar his mother used for punishment had a small window overlooking the neighbour’s courtyard; the neighbour’s German shepherd chained to his doghouse, barked almost incessantly on the occasions when Peter was confined in the cellar
