Background

A description of the experience

Hiya xxxxxx

I thought you might like to know about our experience with Rene's Mum, Maggie's granny.

As you know she came to live with us as she got older and she was suffering badly from dementia.  She talked to people who weren't there, she had to be watched the whole time and overall was hard work.  She wasn't exactly lucid either, in other words she didn't make much sense a lot of the time, although she was quite good about past events, she had almost perfect recall of the distant past.

Anyway, you know how old people suffer from the cold.  Well we put an electric blanket into her bed and every evening switched it on before she went to bed and then switched it off before she got in, just to warm the bed.  It was one of the old fashioned sort that had two states - on or off and when it was on it was super warm.  You weren't supposed to sleep with it on.

Unfortunately, or may be fortunately, one night we went to bed and forgot to switch it off.  The poor old girl was in no fit state to do it herself, but it worked a sort of miracle.  The next morning she was all bright and chirpy, active, full of the joys of spring, and could remember things.  We were gob smacked.

It lasted a day, then she slowly sank back.

We hadn't got the courage to try it a second time, especially as we might have been prosecuted or something if anything had happened to her, but it was food for thought.

Hope this is helpful to you.

Taffy

PS Oh yes and it got rid of the cold she had too
