Then, softening in expression, he told me of a mystic vision he had experienced personally, and which, he considered, had contained both truth and deadly danger.
He had seemed to be climbing a mountain-top in search of God, and had come at last to a great - white throne, but dared not look upon the face of Him who sat there.
" Dare to lift up your eyes ! " cried a voice.
He lifted up his eyes, and the face which he beheld was - his own.
I began to feel that the things I had heard about the Sheikh el Melewi from native Arabs who considered him a holy man were in a very deep sense true.
