Heard did not use repression, he used the opposite, but I have added repression as an activity so that the connection can be made between his observations and the activity itself
Gerald Heard believed that the repression inherent in religions such as Puritanism, Islam and Catholicism or in the impositions of dictatorships led to no spiritual input at all and 'monomanic militarists'.
He noted that in certain Latin American states that when mobs were gathering in the streets and demagogic orators seemed about to be able to raise a revolution, the tide was turned by opening the cinemas and showing, free of charge, pornographic films that had been censored. 'The public rushed to the easier excitement, the less risky pleasure'! Heard also noted that extremely competitive businessmen, the aggressive and the angry are often sexually inactive, impotent or frustrated.

...for a long while sociologically minded historians have been puzzled by the fact that militaristic dictators always interfere with the sexual freedom of their subjects, even forbidding behaviour which is private....
The dictators know intuitively how their requirements may be met. They require not merely cannon fodder but fanatics. They obtain their fanatics from those who think militarism better than debauchery – if not for themselves – then for others.
That is the true gravity of our situation; if our evolution is over, if we have no further original outlet adequate to our enormous and fretting energy, then the only choice is slow degeneracy through sex addiction or a convulsive end through homicidal mania.......
.........is not our present distress and chaos, our psychotic, competitive and anarchic world, proof that we are failing to develop?
