Background

Jenny Randles is one of the masters in the area of carefully, scientifically  and systematically documenting strange and spiritually interesting experiences.

The following story is especially interesting as the poor lady is getting a ‘double whammy’ from the electricity pylons and the underlying rock.  For more detail of the electricity pylon effects see the section on Low frequency industrial electric fields

A description of the experience

Jenny Randles – Supernatural Pennines

……….Rossendale and Calderdale valley run together, with Rossendale just in Lancashire and Calderdale in west Yorkshire. In fact Todmorden, with nearby Bacup form the undoubted hub of this red hot spot…………

If anywhere epitomises the Pennine window these valleys must be it. Made up of small mill towns tottering on steep slopes between Burnley in the north-west and Halifax in the south-east it has developed such a reputation especially for UFO sightings, that, … it has the nickname UFO Alley. It is not merely the level of activity here, which is long term and prodigious (making this area easily most qualified to claim the title of UFO capital of Britain), rather it is the quality of the events reported.  It has been estimated that as many as one-fifth of the close encounter cases to be reported in the UK have occurred within this area of around 50 square miles.

Elsie lives in an old house on the moors above Calderdale. She has frequently experienced the way these hills are alive not with the sound of music but with paranormal phenomena……

Elsie's visions took the form initially of seeing normal people as she walked about - but who turned out to be hardly normal. In 1940, aged seven, she was walking over the moors near Todmorden when she met a woman from a nearby cottage. They had a friendly conversation, and the woman asked about Elsie's parents. When she arrived home she was scolded for claiming to have chatted to this woman - because the old lady had died a few weeks earlier.

Experiences of this sort became a regular occurrence and Elsie even saw strange faces reflected in window glass or mirrors; such surfaces seemed to act like a crystal bail, offering a screen onto which the mind can project images detected within the subconscious.

After 60 years of seeing things in her remote moorland home, Elsie says both she and her house somehow act like a 'satellite dish tuning into the past'. She cites examples where a kitten, which research suggests might have died in the house in the care of previous owners, regularly  appears, on her lap before vanishing. …. others in the house never see the creature…….

There does seem to be evidence of an energy field that resonates in this isolated building.  For years there have been unexplained power drains here.  The electricity company has made several attempts to identify why fuses, lights, vacuum cleaners and cookers overload and take power consumption way beyond the norm (Elsie called them in owing to the huge bills they were charging). And glows, both blue/green and white, have formed in the house and garden rising from the ground.

The building is constructed from quartz-rich local rock. It is also surrounded by a strong electric field (pylons straddle the hills nearby), so it is hard to escape the conclusion that these are somehow 'charging' this spot with powerful energy, just as we have seen elsewhere in the Pennines.
