Last wish

Before I die
I would like to spend 2 weeks with you
Just you and I
Alone somewhere warm and restful
By a palm lined beach
Where there was a warm turquoise sea
And a bedroom opening onto the sand
So we could make love
And then swim in the salty warm water
Surrounded by the flashes of colour
From tiny tropical fish
 Where we could eat
Sweet juicy tropical fruit
And fresh fish grilled on coals
And char grilled meat
With fresh vegetables and salads
And drink pina coladas
And rum punches
Whenever we wanted to
Perhaps an island
Not developed but with little paths winding through
So you could go searching for birds and reptiles
In the quiet of the forest

And in the soft dusk of the evening
We could perhaps go fishing
In a boat with little lanterns on the prow
And we could eat what we had caught
Cooked on a simple barbecue
We had made on the beach

And, during the heat of the day
We could lie together naked on soft white sheets
With above us the swish swish of a ceiling fan
And outside the shimmer of the afternoon
And the buzz of cicadas

And at night we could lie in the cool soft air of the tropical night
Having made love
And listen to the tree frogs and the sounds of the night
And I could fold myself in your arms
And fall asleep to the sound of your breathing
And the huge pink moon
As it splashed into
That tropical sea
