Type of Spiritual Experience

Background

People who are ill or near death are far more capable of having an out of body experience than those that are in the peak of health.

We have seen why on the website, as all the conditions that provoke a spiritual experience involuntarily give testimony to the fact that sickness, fear, grief , mental illness and so on are all ideal conditions to provide you with an experience.

Having said this, out of body travel for the sick is not ‘safe’.  In all cases it brings you closer to death and if you are already sick, it could tip the balance.  The cord that binds can become very very thin  - one false move and it can snap and you are gone – dead – although you may not actually care!  If you are really sick and in pain, then it may be a blessed relief.

There is an irony on Sylvan's advice as he was none too well himself!

A description of the experience

Projection of the Astral Body – Muldoon and Carrington 1929

However, my advice is to attempt astral projection without the assistance of anyone, once you know exactly what to do. When you do this, you develop a stronger self-control, a sort of self-mastery over the situation, and will not be influenced by the conscious or unconscious thoughts transmitted from the minds of others.
I have always found it difficult to project when there were others near me. One of the first thoughts one has, when he becomes conscious in the projected astral body, is of the physical body. When one is projected, the very first thing he does, when he senses anyone moving near the spot where the physical body lies, is to interiorise.
