Background

A description of the experience

Ernesto Bozzano - Psychic phenomena at the moment of death [110 cases suggesting survival after death]

First category - Cases in which the apparitions of the deceased are perceived solely by the dying person, and relate to persons whose death he knew.

I extract this first example of Light (1907, page 118). Dr. G. J. Grote reports the following:

I had a patient named D., a former finance inspector, who succumbed to a liver engorgement. My brother was his close friend and was called telegraphically at his bedside, where he remained until the death of D., which took place a few hours later.

There was also another friend of the patient, Mr. R., also a finance officer, who was surprised to hear his dying senior begging him to question him on how to measure the contents of a barrel of beer, and so on.

He did as requested and the dying man, after having answered, asked if he had done it correctly.

"All correct," answered Mr. R. Then the dying man continued:

"The reason I asked you to question me is that I wanted to convince you that I am in possession of all my mental faculties, and that I am not hallucinated.

But I must confide to you that I see in the room, with my wife and you two, other spiritual forms which I do not know, but which certainly came here for some purpose. I do not know what that goal is, but I want to let you know that the spiritual world is not a hypothesis, it is a real fact."

After saying that, he quickly went out.

My brother, Mr. D. and Mr. R. were all members of the Congregational Church.
