Background

A description of the experience

An interesting number of Korean shamans make themselves into living maypoles.  The maypole is a symbol of the Tree of Life and by extension the Tree.   At the top of the tree [as in Christmas trees] one has a symbol of the Higher spirit in some form or other – so a crown or double or single flame .

Hanging down in gay profusion are numerous ribbons, in this case symbols of energy flows, thus an indicator of abundant spiritual energy - meridians pulsing with life.  The ribbons are usually multi-coloured – reflecting the symbolism of the rainbow.
