Background

A description of the experience

Science and the Spook – George Owen and Victor Sims

…. the following extract is taken from a letter sent to us by a gentleman at Middleton near Manchester.

An example I wish to mention is that of the lady who exercises two Afghan Hounds. The lady was seen by two night workmen in the early hours of the morning walking along the canal bank with her dogs.

As the two men approached her, they bid her "Goodnight", and when she passed them the experience was unanswerable; a cold shudder went through both men: apparently the lady and the dogs passed through them and retreated into the night.

I might add that the amazing thing about this tale is that it is true, and the lady in question does exist and is very much alive today. The lady admits that she exercises her Afghanistan Hounds on the canal bank, but only during the day, she has never been there at night.
