Experiments in mental suggestion – Professor L L Vasiliev

During the two years of the Commission’s work 269 experiments of all three series were conducted; about 900 different objects and pictures were used for transmitting by mental suggestion. The numerical results (in percentages) of all the experiments are as follows:

It should be taken into account that the choice of objects for mental suggestion was not in any way limited in the above experiments. In other types of experiments the choice is limited involving, for example, a choice of 52 in the case of playing cards, 30 in the case of the letters of the Russian alphabet, 10 if numbers are used and 5 for Zener cards.  In our experiments the probability of chance coincidence is very low, and therefore the percentages shown in the table for complete and incomplete perception must be considered very high.
