Sister Perold writing in concise Afrikaans described her psychic faculties from the age of six.
"My late father was a great musician with the concertina, and I used to sit flat on the ground between his legs while he played the concertina above my head. My thoughts used to take wing when I listened to his playing of the lovely melodies and old-fashioned Boer music that stirred me.
"Then one day sitting in my usual place flat on the floor between his legs I was entranced by his music, when suddenly I saw a vision as clear as anything right before me. I saw water and on the water her face and her little 'kappie' appearing above the surface of the water was my little sister. I gave one scream and ran like thewind. I ran straight into the dam which was about fifty yards from the house.
"We were indoors when I saw the vision. My mother and father, surprised beyond understanding at my behaviour ran after me. I plunged into the dam, just as my father grabbed both my little sister and I. She fortunately survived but was nearly drowned. Afterwards we learned that she had followed the little ducklings, wanting to catch them and got into deep water.
