The Bridge over the River
How long the process of dying lasts!-I am still dying; I am divesting myself continuously of sheaths, and each time I perceive more and feel differently. Only my love for you remains the same; it penetrates everything because it is unchanging and eternal.
My true life has begun now; the dream condition has ended, and yet, compared to your lives, this phase is the more positive. How sad that life on earth is perpetually enveloped in mist. One sees nothing, feels even less, and the little tormenting worries of daily life add to it all.
Nevertheless, the longing for an earthly incarnation persists among us; therein lies progress. Otherwise, the spirits would hardly decide to descend repeatedly into the bodily prison had not the desire and joy for it been put into their hearts.
