Since my mother died I have experienced, the phenomenon of someone lying down next to me when I'm in bed on my own, i.e. before my husband comes to bed. I can be reading or if I'm tired just lying there and I feel the weight of someone lying down on the bed.
Once or twice I've fallen asleep, felt the weight of someone lying down, turned to kiss my husband goodnight and realized he hasn't come up to bed yet.
This doesn't happen every night, but if I've been upset or ill I've felt it more strongly. Also I've experienced the feeling of someone tucking me into bed which is what my mother used to do when she came to say goodnight when I was a child.
