The Truth in the Light – Dr Peter Fenwick and Elizabeth Fenwick

 My experience happened in October 1983. I was relaxing in my armchair with a glass of wine and my mood was very relaxed and happy when my husband, with no warning, attacked me from behind with a 7lb lump hammer. This attack left me with a depressed fracture of the skull plus other fractures ad bruises.

In casualty nobody considered for one moment that I would live. I was informed much later that my breathing and heart did stop. During this time I – my spirit I presume – was high above Casualty in another large white room with people who were also in white. These people sat around me and I seemed to know them, but I can no longer recall who they were. They wanted me to stop fighting and stay with them; I had achieved what I was sent to do. They recalled many of the good things I had done through my life and informed me of the comfort I had given to many of the patients who had died whilst in my care. They also mentioned the wrong things I had done in my life.

When I insisted that I must return and gave my reasons they assured me that all I had to do would be done from where I was. At one point they told me to look down at myself. I was warned of the disabilities I would have to overcome as well as the pain I would have to endure, which would be worse than I had ever experienced. I said I still wished to return. They assured me that they would give me as much support as possible but the recovery was up to me and that I would have to live with what I achieved. Furthermore, I was also given new tasks which I would have to do and told that I could not return if I gave up.

The whole time my spirit was away from my body was totally calm and peaceful. Although it sounds as though I was arguing with these people – spirits – I was not and neither were they. We were all very calm and talked very peacefully…..

The length of time I was in the spirit world has no relation to earth time. I was with the spirits for ages and there was never any rush, whereas it was clear that I could only have died for minutes in earth time. There is so much rush on earth and so little time.

When I regained consciousness four days later I knew exactly what had happened to me, though nobody had told me at the police’s request, as naturally they wished to question me.

The neurologist and surgeon say I am a walking miracle because due to the amount of brain damage I sustained I should be a cabbage, which I was initially. But due to my spiritual warnings of what to expect plus their help and guidance, I now have only a slight paralysis down my right side, which is hardly noticeable, plus epilepsy, which is controlled by medication.

I have always told my friends when they have felt pity for me because of my disabilities, which were very marked to begin with, and the way my entire life had been shattered initially ‘Yes, I have lost a lot, but due to this experience I have gained so much more’
