A description of the experience

From The Truth in the Light – Dr Peter Fenwick and Elizabeth Fenwick

I went into hospital for a minor operation at a time when I was very unhappy with no particular wish to live. I was in a velvety dark tunnel, incredibly soft darkness and surrounded by voices – I could see no shapes – who were all very pleased to see me.

There was a tremendous sense of peace, love, compassion and understanding. At the end of the tunnel there was a very bright luminous light and a landscape beyond, very beautiful.

As we approached the light, one of the voices said ‘Are you coming or staying?’ and I knew that if I went, I would die. I thought about it – certainly there was no fear – but I said, ‘No, I haven’t finished my life yet’…

The experience was incredibly vivid, and I lost all fear of death
