Type of Spiritual Experience
Background
So, how did it ‘know’?
It is my contention that it could only know because it has instructions which respond [in software terms are triggered], by other functions which controls cyclical rhythms. It doesn’t have to ‘see’ because the functions are doing the seeing.
A description of the experience
Lyall Watson – Supernature
Cosmic forces recur in cyclical patterns to which life learns to respond. The strongest responses are naturally linked to the shortest cycles, those which produce the greatest number of changes in a given time period. The most fundamental and familiar of all the changes to which life is subject are those produced by the movement of our earth about its axis……
Earth spins from west to east at about 1,000 miles an hour and travels around the sun at more than 60 times this speed. If we choose the sun as our fixed point, one revolution or one solar day lasts 24 hours. The lunar day is 24.8 hours. Measuring our rotation relative to one of the distant fixed stars, we get a sidereal day 23.9 hours long. Life itself is sensitive to all 3 cycles.
……………….
For example, a population of Euglena Gracilis that were kept in continuous darkness became active and sensitive to light at the same time each day and became insensitive when the light outside the laboratory was fading, even though they were in total darkness
