Background

I am not very sure about Madame Blavatsky, there is so much that she writes that very obviously comes from other sources – it is second hand knowledge -  but which she claims as her own and it leaves one wondering about how much of what she wrote is just second hand knowledge.  Her income was reliant on her writing about this and the organisations she founded – again not a good beginning, so as a source I have not included her, but here she attempts to describe the process of contemplation and detachment – except she doesn’t do it all that well, which rather leads me to suspect she never attained this state.

As a historical reference, however, it is quite useful I think and a comparative observation

A description of the experience

The Voice of Silence – H P Blavatsky

He who would hear the voice of the silence, the soundless sound, and comprehend it, he has to learn the nature of the perfect inward concentration of the mind, accompanied by complete abstraction from everything pertaining to the external Universe or the world of senses.

Having become indifferent to objects of perception, the pupil must seek out the Rajah of the senses, the Thought Producer, him who awakes illusions.

The mind is the great slayer of the real.

Let the Disciple slay the Slayer.

For – when to himself his form appears unreal, as do on waking all the forms he sees in dreams

When he ceases to hear the many, he may discern the ONE – the inner sound which kills the outer
