Common steps and sub-activities

Allergy determination process

The following steps can be used to determine in a broad brush way which products you may be allergic to as a result of vaccines.

1.     List the vaccines you have been given

EG  Influenza Vaccine - Fluzone

2.  Using the List of Vaccine Ingredients provided on Wikipedia extract all the ingredients.  You are likely to have an allergy to all these ingredients.  For example

Influenza vaccine (Fluzone)

Chicken embryo

Egg protein, formaldehyde, gelatin, octylphenol ethoxylate (Triton X-100),sodium phosphate, thimerosal

 Egg
Formaldehyde
Gelatin
Octylphenol ethoxylate
Sodium phosphate
Thimerosal

3.     Go to the section on this site which lists the E numbers for these ingredients.  This will give you a list of E numbers to avoid

Egg
E240
- Formaldehyde
E441 - Gelatin
Octylphenol ethoxylate
E106 and E339- Sodium phosphate
Thimerosal [Mercury]

4.  Go to Dr Duke’s plant database and choose the search query which lists plants which have a chemical. “List activities and plants for a chemical”.   For each chemical do a search.  This will the give you the suspect foods for each chemical

Egg
E441
- Gelatin
Octylphenol ethoxylate
E106 and E339- Sodium phosphate
Thimerosal [Mercury]

E240 – Formaldehyde - Plant species with highest amount of Formaldehyde

  • Avena sativa L. -- Oats; in Seed;

  • Ribes nigrum L. -- Black Currant; in Fruit;

5.     Of the non-food products remaining use Wikipedia to find out what the chemical is and how and where is it is used

For example Octylphenol ethoxylate is called Triton X-100 and is a commonly used detergent.  Apart from laboratory use, Triton X-100 can be found in several types of cleaning compounds, ranging from heavy-duty industrial products to detergents. It is also a popular ingredient in homemade vinyl record cleaning fluids.  According to the manufacturer fact sheet it is used in Household & industrial cleaners, paints & coatings, pulp & paper, textile, agrochemical, metal working fluids, oilfield chemicals.  Meaning we may have an allergic reaction to any or all of these.
