Helter skelter
Like a large number of fairground rides the carousel or merry go round, the ferris wheel and so on - the helter skelter has spiritual symbolism.
It is essentially a soul cone, with the top of the cone being the Higher spirit – you reach this by ascending the stairs and then there is the opposite journey down to earth.
Thus as you go up, you are spiritually re-enacting either the spiritual path or death; and as you go down, you are spiritually re-enacting any ‘fall from grace’ or alternatively birth.
The symbolism shares some aspects with the Christmas tree.
