The rose shares its symbolism with all flower.  The symbolic attainment of the ascending path up the soul is often seen in visions and also symbolically represented in texts as a rose. 

The story ‘The Romance of the Rose’, for example, is an allegorical journey of the soul in its search for the top of the cone – spiritual perfection. Superficially it is a tale of courtly love, but it is described as an ‘allegorical dream vision’, as such the secondary meaning should be clear.

When seen in a symbolic garden, in most cultures it is a symbol of perfection. 

It is also associated with Venus and Aphrodite and hence of love and the heart.  The alternative symbol used is the lotus.

The colour of the rose can relate to the colour coding used for the various chakras – see Chakras and colour symbolism . But this is an area which is not consistent . 

Occasionally the rose is white symbolising purity and the attainment of the aether level, at other times indigo/violet – this being ‘the unattainable’ – ‘perfection’.   But a person is sometimes said to have ‘attained perfection’ when he sees a blue rose.

Pink roses are often given as a gift to a lover because pink  can mean love.  Red means Fire so I'm not sure what you're wishing if you give someone red roses!

But as I said the symbolism is inconsistent.

Finally, the golden rose is a symbol of achievement – it takes on the symbol of gold.

In Britain, the Rose became the national emblem.  It sprang originally from Wales - last stronghold of Druidism - from the house of Owen Tudor.  The Rose, as symbol within symbol is Druidic too ..... the Rose in contrast with the Lily is the earthly symbol of self knowledge and selflessness - it is the herald of the future in which human wisdom will be founded on Divine Love ........... the Rose could be everywhere on earth; the Lily is everywhere in heaven, nevertheless 'Heaven and Earth have kissed each other' as the Psalms say.  When all men recognise that, there will be peace.
