Introduction and description

Allamanda is a genus of flowering plants in the dogbane family, Apocynaceae. They are native to the Americas, where they are distributed from Mexico to Argentina. Some species are familiar as ornamental plants cultivated for their large, colorful flowers. Most species produce yellow flowers; A. blanchetii bears pink. The genus name Allamanda honors the Swiss botanist and physician Frédéric-Louis Allamand (1735–1803).

Allamanda are used in folk medicine and are currently being investigated for antiviral activity. At least one  - Allamanda schottii has been found to have antiviral activity and interestingly it is against rabies.

Allamanda schottii (Bush allamanda; syn. Allamanda neriifolia Hook.f.) is an ornamental plant of Allamanda genus in the Apocynaceae family, which is native from Brazil. This plant is cited in Flora Brasiliensis by Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius.
