Bioenergy
Bioenergy is a term coined by Russian scientists to describe energy given off by plants and other living things. It contributes to the aura.
It is thus a form of physically existent energy that has not yet been satisfactorily investigated. There may be a great number of alternative terms being used for this same energy, but it is somewhat difficult to separate homonym from synonym. These are examples: One of the common qualities of the energy described here is that it is ‘biological’:
- Earth radiation - German authors Manfred Curry and Ernst Hartmann described a force field that supposedly covers the earth at regular intervals and may be detected by dowsing using a divining rod. It is not supposed to be detectable by common scientific instruments but some still connect it to telluric currents, which are actual phenomena, detectable by scientific instruments.
- Chinese biological energy – described below and measurable as an energy field
Barbara Brennan – Hands of Light
Dr Zheng Rongliang of Lanzhou University in the People’s Republic of China, measured energy radiated from the human body, by using a biological detector made from a leaf vein connected to a photoquantum device (low light measuring device).
He studied the energy field emanations of a Qigong Master [Qigong is an ancient Chinese form of health exercise] and the energy field emanations of a clairvoyant. Results of his studies show that the detection system responds to the radiation in the form of a pulse. The pulse emanating from the hand of the Qigong Master is much different to that of the clairvoyant.
At Shanghai Atomic Nucleur Institute of Academia Sinica it was shown that some vital force emanations from Qigong masters seem to have a very low frequency sound wave that appears as a low frequency fluctuating carrier wave. In some cases, it was also detected as a micro-particle flow. The size of the particles was about 60 microns in diameter and they had a velocity of about 20-50 cm/second
- Human Energy Field – This term is one of the more common ones used in the 21st century to describe a detectable ‘life force’ in human beings. The term aura, along with concepts such as the chakra are now recognised by spiritual healers [and the many supporters of this belief] as just a part of a much wider Human Energy Field. This is essentially biological in nature.
- Odic force - was the name given by Baron Carl von Reichenbach to a force he identified that was allied to electricity, magnetism, and heat, a force which he thought was radiated by most substances, and to which different persons are variously sensitive. He stated the energy was visible in total darkness as colored auras surrounding living things, crystals, and magnets, and that it was a ‘biological electromagnetic field’. Von Reichenbach explained the concept of Odic force in detail in a book-length article, Researches on Magnetism, Electricity, Heat and Light in their Relations to Vital Forces, which appeared in a special issue of a respected scientific journal, Annalen der Chemie und Physik.
- Orgone energy was a term invented by psychoanalyst Wilhelm Reich in the late 1930s. Initially it was conceived of as similar to all the other biological energy forces in this list. It was physical and could be measured. But Reich began to treat this energy in an increasingly generalised and abstract way taking it far outside the realm of biological energy. Eventually he almost came close to giving it the same definition as ‘Energy’. It was ‘responsible for almost all observable phenomena’; was ‘an omnipresent force in nature’ and accounted for "the color of the sky, gravity, galaxies, the failure of most political revolutions, and a good orgasm!" . But Reich still thought of it as a physically existent phenomenon – like electromagnetic radiation and was determined to ‘capture’ it. Reich even created devices intended for this purpose – with the hope of being able to ‘treat disease, enhance sexuality, and influence weather patterns’.
All these forms of energy are not the same as the energy described in the concepts section. All the evidence seems to point to forms of ‘physical energy’ of which we are only vaguely aware. All these extra forms of energy are physically detectable whereas the energy described in all mystic literature and philosophic texts is not. This basic raw material does not flow, it doesn’t ‘cover things’ or emanate from plants, it doesn’t flow as currents under or over the earth, it doesn’t emanate from space or under the ground or flow along ley lines or show up in ‘Kirlian’ photographs.

It helps … to consider what modern scientists have already learned about the world of dynamic energy fields. It helps us remove the blocks from our brains that keep us from seeing that we, too, are subject to all the universal laws. Modern science tells us that the human organism is not just a physical structure made of molecules, but that, like everything else, we are also composed of energy fields. We are moving out of the world of static solid form into a world of dynamic energy fields. We too, ebb and flow like the sea. We too are constantly changing. ………..
And scientists are learning to measure these subtle changes. They are developing instruments to detect these energy fields related to our bodies and to measure their frequencies.
As early as 1939, Drs H Burr and F Northrop at Yale University found that by measuring the energy field of a plant seed [which they termed the L or Life field], they could tell how healthy the plant growth from that seed would be. They found that by measuring the field of a frog’s eggs, they could discern the future location of the frog’s nervous system. Another such measurement pinpointed the time of ovulation in women, suggesting a new birth control method.
In 1959 Dr Leonard Ravitz at William and Mary University showed that the Human Energy Field fluctuates with a person’s mental and psychological stability. He suggested that there is a field associated with the thought processes. He suggested that variation of this thought field caused psychosomatic symptoms.
In 1979, another scientist, Dr Robert Becker of Upstate Medical School, Syracuse, New York mapped a complex electrical field on the body which is shaped like the body and the central nervous system. He named this field the Direct Current Control System and found that it changes shape and strength with physiological and psychological changes.

Dr Victor Inyushin at Kazakh University in Russia has done extensive research with the Human Energy Field since the 1950s. Using the results of these experiments, he suggests the existence of a ‘bioplasmic’ energy field compose of ions, free protons and free electrons. Since this is a state distinct from the four known states of matter – solids, liquids, gases and ‘plasma’ – Inyushin suggests that the bioplasmic energy field is a fifth state of matter
