Some science behind the scenes

2C-E

2C-E [2,5-dimethoxy-4-ethylphenethylamine] is one of the general 2C family of drugs. 2C (2C-x) is a general name for the family of psychedelic phenethylamines containing methoxy groups on the 2 and 5 positions of a benzene ring. For more details of the side-effects please go to this entry.

It was first synthesized by Alexander Shulgin. The total duration is generally between 6 and 10  hours. The onset of effects takes approximately 20-90 minutes and perception 'may be somewhat altered' for up to a day after ingestion.

2C-E produces strong synaesthesia, sound distortion and an enhancement of the experience of music, and, most notably, visuals. Vivid hallucinations similar to those experienced while under the influence of LSD are common at high doses.    There have been deaths.

The compound has been described as "difficult" by its users, including its inventor Shulgin.  Many reports indicate that the effects of this particular chemical may be “overly intense for those not well experienced with drugs” [sic].  Several users have described "profound feelings of general discomfort". It can provoke strong nausea leading to vomiting, itching, prolonged tensing of unusual combinations of muscle groups and  diarrhoea.

It is illegal in many countries
