My correspondent ... described a similar incident which he had witnessed himself:
"A woman had a nasty accident to her hand with a ham knife and the doctors at the hospital were going to stitch it. It transpired, however, that this woman was a very good subject for hypnosis and had been well conditioned by her husband-an experienced hypnotist. He arrived on the scene before anything had been done, put her into a trance, ordered the bleeding to stop and the wound to close and heal quickly. And before my own eyes that is precisely what happened."
