Background
There are numerous hints throughout redon's paintings that he knew the practises of Sex magick and Love with Visualisation.
In the following paintings I have brought together some of the ways in which these activities were expressed by him in paint.
- La Coquille - the shell here forms part of a series itself and is a reference to the vulva of a woman
- Beatrice - from Dante, the personification of the feminine in a man and the representation of the Higher spirit. To love Beatrice is to practise love with visualisation
- Pandora - Redon's pandora has not let out wayward spirits, but is looking down at herself holding the box as if she has unleashed something more potent spiritually via her body. And what has been let out is Light, the positive release of spirit
