(February 1938) I became conscious in a separated form…. But it was a dark state, and I was anxious to get outside (having no power to get free by deeper recollection, one's natural instinct is to escape by going elsewhere).
As I tried to walk, my progress was impeded by some long garment round my body; and filled with a certain amount of anguish I tore down the front in order to become more free. Instead, however, there was an unpleasant tightness in the region of the hips and thighs, and the clothing round the shoulders and armpits also felt tight and uncomfortable. I tried to withdraw my right arm, as the clothing seemed a bit looser on that side, but the attempt had to be given up.
Breathing then became difficult; and since there was nothing I could do about that, the separation ended.
