The spiral can be found in three main forms:
- Expanding as in the nebula – an active sun-symbol
- Contracting like the whirlwind or whirlpool – a negative moon symbol
- Or ossified like the snail’s shell – also a negative moon symbol
Furthermore,
- The creative spiral rises in a clockwise direction and is an attribute of Pallas Athene
- The destructive spiral like a whirlwind twirls round to the left and is an attribute of Poseidon
