Lying asleep quite late into the night
I felt my love lean over in the bed
Dark I felt the brush of that sweet head
Bearded and strong with bare throat made to bite
Too dark for blushing and too warm for white
But perfect coloured and his mouth was red
And his lips opened amorously and said
I know not what, save one word – Delight
And all his face was honey to my mouth
And all his body pasture to my eyes
The long strong arms and hotter hands than fire
The quivering mouth, hair smelling of the south
The strong hard gaze, the splendid supple thighs
The glittering eyes and features of my soul’s desire
