Case Studies Bearing Upon Survival – John F Thomas
This case of awareness is representative of seventy-five other similar ones that Mr. T. has in his index of his London experiences. While there he received little mail, the most at one time being a collection of four letters that he picked up at the hotel desk as he went out to take a bus to a sitting with Mrs. Elliott. One of these letters he read on the bus and in it there was a wish from the wife of one of his sons of “love to the lady," or some similar heart warming implication. In the sitting immediately following, there is this reference:
"She says you had big mail.
(When?)
It quite, quite close.
(Yes. Are those the letters that she means?)
Mmmm. One of them it is as if from somebody related to her or talk about her. Does you know?"
As stated above, there are numerous references in the twenty-one sittings that Mr. T. held in London similar to that about the "big mail," in that
(1) they treat of little occurrences that might have been in the daily experience or interests of any visitor to London,
(2) they usually need some interpretation, and
(3) they are given in fragmentary form.
On the other hand, it should be said that they are correctly selective in that
(1) they report only the little experiences and interests that Mr. T. actually did have out of the countless number that it might have been equally well inferred that he had had and did not have,
(2) they are in the right time relations, i,. e., the reports are given shortly after the occurrences, and
(3) they sometimes correctly relate the incidents to Mr. T.'s unexpressed thoughts and emotional reactions.
