Type of Spiritual Experience

Background

The composer not only constructs hallucinations which are largely driven by the person’s emotional state, but has been contacted by one or several disembodied souls attracted by the vulnerability of the person to a form of possession.  Lori experienced a large number of such disembodied souls –which seemed to be with her almost constantly.

Disembodied souls are the last thing you want to attract, because as Rudolf Steiner took great pains to explain, they are in a form of limbo brought about by their own inadequacies.  They can also be extremely nasty.  People gone wrong in life, who seem to be unable to go through the stages of death needed to make them OK again – the purge.  The lady who had Hubert who told her jokes was lucky and the fact she attracted Hubert is probably a reflection of her mental state.  But I suspect Huberts are pretty rare.

The schizophrenic’s ability to attract disembodied souls and the particular souls they attract is thus largely determined by their reactions.  The effect is a vicious loop spiralling round and round, fear, bad effect, more fear, worse effect and so on.  We are not getting what we need; we are getting what we appear to have asked for.

The composer/constructor function takes its cue from the thoughts and emotions it detects coming from normal perception.   A sensitive person will be severely frightened by this apparent sudden flood of inexplicable input from an unknown source that appears to have taken them over.  Thus the predominant emotion will be fear and probably paranoia.  This is recorded in the perceptions log.

The composer takes this as its cue and goes searching for external input which seems to match this 'requirement'.  And the result is the hallucination of the schizophrenic. Fear engenders fearful images, paranoia engenders abusive voices.  The thoughts are acting like search criteria in a google search and if you type in 'they're getting at me' into google 'search' you may well get voices which indeed get at you.

A description of the experience

From The Quiet Room – Lori Schiller and Amanda Bennett

The Voices were with me when I awoke.  They were with me when I got dressed.  They were with me when I ate.  They were with me when I sat around the day room, trying to think of something to do.  I could not even find relief in sleep.  The Voices yelled so loud they woke me up, leaving me shaking and frightened
