C. M. Dyer (Dorset, Great Britain) sent me this odd and fascinating account of his witness to psychic music (November, 1968):

About the year 1920 when I was fifteen, I lived with my parents and sister in Frome, a quiet country town in Somerset. One night during the winter I had gone to bed in a room in front of the house while my parents and sister were still up and talking at the rear of the house. The time was about 10:30.

 I was not asleep, but suddenly heard a strange kind of music, which quickly grew louder and then faded away as if it was passing by in the wood outside. There was, however, no other sound, such as a vehicle would have made. And this was before the days of radio. It lasted, I suppose, about ten to fifteen seconds and had a peculiar quality, like tinkling bells with probably flutes and dulcimers. The impression I received can only be described as if it was "faery" music.

In the morning I mentioned it to my parents, but I think they ascribed the experience to a dream.

However, the following evening we were all together in the front room at about the same time, when the same music was heard by all four of us, so proving it to be objective. I quickly went to the front door, but before I reached it the sound had ceased and nothing was to be seen or heard.

There is a sequel. . . . About four or five years-ago I was looking through the radio programs and noted that the B.B.C. was to broadcast an adaption of The Lord of the Rings, a somewhat esoteric novel of fairy tale by J. Tolkein. I decided to listen and was amazed when I heard the introductory music, which I immediately recognized as the same "faery" music I had heard so many years ago!
