A Casebook of Otherworldly Music – D Scott Rogo

Case No. 25 - Peggy Mason

This case is from Mrs. Mason of Sussex, England, in litt., November 11, 1968

Owing to my age and a badly broken pelvis earlier in life, I had a caesarian, but as I wanted to be fully conscious at the birth, this was performed with only a local anaesthetic.

The operation commenced at 9 a.m. on November 18, 1957. Half an hour later my surgeon lifted out the baby, the cord still unsevered, held it up in both hands like an offering, and said the magic words: "Your baby is born."

Immediately as these words were spoken, I heard a great burst of what I can only call "celestial music." It resounded in my ears as a sudden unexpected Te Deum with full choir and organ would sound, crashing out in a hitherto silent church. It seemed like a burst of joy, lasting for a few seconds, then fading away I was astonished and quite overcome with the emotion of this unforgettable moment of my life.

This was not the last of the astral music, however. During the week that followed, when my son was brought for me to feed, I enjoyed on several occasions the sound of the most delightful and harmonious singing and music. My small son also heard this, and would turn his head up to gaze to the ceiling with rapt attention, as if fascinated by the beautiful sound.

One day I said to the nurse, 'Where does that lovely music and singing come from? It seems to come from the room above.

She looked at me curiously and replied, “But there is no room above I have never heard any music, from anywhere."
