Light and Death – Dr Michael Sabom

I was lying on the ground.  It was very calm and the colours were very very bright.  There was a red Georgia clay and the sky was a bright blue.  There was a body of water that was like a mirror, bright, like in summertime.  There were trees around with very green leaves and bright brown bark.

There was a man standing between the water and me and he was wearing a brown suit.  He had short grey hair and he was talking – but I couldn't hear what he was saying.  He looked stern.  Far, far away I could hear a voice say 'Charlene, Charlene'.  It was a man's voice.  I wanted to get up and go to the voice.  It kept calling 'Charlene, Charlene, come back!'

It was definitely not coming from the man's mouth but was coming from way in the background beyond the trees.  I wanted to get up and go to that voice.  I was not scared.  I just wanted to get enough strength to move.

Finally, I remember opening my eyes and seeing my husband with his face right here saying 'Charlene, Charlene!'.  I felt that, if I hadn't moved, I would have died.

 It was like a beautiful sunglow and sunset.  It wasn’t any blue sky or green water.  The water he [her deceased husband] was coming to me in was in a yellow glow…. And everything was just beautiful.  The trees were there but they were all in the shadows of gold.  There was no green, no blue.
