A description of the experience

Wikipedia

Know as the Spiritual Swashbuckler, Fay Marvin Clark "died" 104 times — that is to say that he was pronounced dead by research doctors. His body temperature dropped to 93 degrees, his heart beat to one per minute. No simple joyride, each of the 103 experiments was preceded by rigid diets and mental discipline.

The first "death" was in a car accident. He suffered a fractured skull, a crushed collar bone, a bashed breast bone, a pierced left lung with two of his ribs punched through it, and a wide selection of other internal injuries.

Two doctors declared him dead.

While they poked around in his body discovering injury on top of injury, Fay Marvin Clark hovered near the ceiling, realizing the body on the operating table was his and also realizing he didn’t need it any more. He watched the post mortem, listened to clinical words about death, and then out of sheer boredom, trundled the corridors of the Belle Plaine hospital “just looking for someone to talk to.”

Then, just in the nick of time, as they were pulling the sheet up over his head, he zipped back into his body.

“Returning to my body was such a powerful experience,” he said. “I knew then that bodily death does not end your consciousness. It started me on the Search.”

He searched for life’s answers for the rest of his life.
