Background

A description of the experience

Croiset the Clairvoyant - Jack Harrison Pollack

The most difficult time of his life, Croiset told me, was in early 1941 in Enschede when he was thirty-two years old.

One day, when he was staying at the home of a chemist friend Ketelaar, he suddenly saw, among other things, the image of a German policeman dressed in a green uniform. He realized that he was going to be arrested by the Nazis. Croiset asked Ketelaar to help his wife and children. Ketelaar and other friends urged Croiset to escape. But Croiset refused, saying, "I hear an inner voice saying 'Don't run away. Stay in Holland and continue your work."'

Though Croiset never actually joined the Dutch “underground," he nevertheless aided it through his clairvoyant powers. He frequently had psychic impressions and informed resistance -movement Dutchmen about them. For example, one day while passing a house, he received an image of Jews hidden there and of being in danger. "The Germans will soon raid this house," he warned. Through the intercession of underground friends, the Jews were swiftly moved elsewhere.

When Nazis later raided this house as predicted by Croiset, the Jews had already fled to a safer place.
