I became aware of a strange sensation beneath my feet, as if the earth were shifting. What was happening here? Could anyone else in the bar feel this?
A powerful force of energy seemed to be working its way around my feet. I noticed that it was beginning to move upwards, entwining itself around my legs, quickening as it went. It was spiralling like a serpent around my body, stopping and starting at certain points along the way as it ascended. Anxiously, I wondered if anyone could see what was happening to me, but no one seemed to be looking in my direction. The rush of energy wormed its way up further and further, higher and higher until finally it reached my head and suddenly I was catapulted right up into the air.
Whoosh.
I remember seeing everyone below me in the bar and wondering, what are all these people going to think of me hovering around up here? But then I noticed myself still sitting at the table and I realised that I must have somehow risen out of my body.
Was I dead?.....
It occurred to me that, if I had died, it was perhaps because I had discovered the source of true happiness and now no longer needed to be alive. Eventually the moment drew to a close and I returned to my body. For a few minutes, I just sat there staring into space, in complete and utter shock. I slowly tried to get myself together, but because I felt so disconnected from reality, it was proving to be difficult. I hadn't touched a drop of alcohol ... nobody in their right mind was going to believe what had just happened to me.
I must have looked pretty freaked out because when my friends returned to the table both of them looked quite concerned. They started talking to me but I couldn't understand them. I stood up and mumbled something about having to get out of the pub. The followed closely behind and once outside, continued to go on at me. I could see their mouths moving, but I couldn't work out what they were saying. Their voices sounded distorted..........
Driving back I started to hear lots of different voices, speaking very loudly and quickly. Something was very wrong here. What the hell had happened? The radio wasn't on and no one was talking. Was I going mad? Had the experience in the pub activate something within me?
