Background

A description of the experience

From Shingon Refractions – Professor Mark Unno

Our patron [Lady Sammi] showed no hesitation concerning poverty or suffering in making her generous offerings to the temple; the monks took joy and gathered before the Buddha[-image] to express their gratitude to her.

This fool, filled with faith, inscribed inside of the bell various mantras such as the Horokaku, Bodhi-Manda, and Mantra of Light, as well as passages from the Flower Ornament Sutra and other scriptures.  When I began to strike the bell dedicating my whole being to the task, faith spontaneously arose and permeated my very bones; I knew that I had encountered the compassion of Vinaya Master Zhixing  and the benefit he brings to sentient beings.
