Daniélou, Alain – The Way to the Labyrinth [translated by Marie-Claire Cournand]
All my life I have been surrounded with youth and tender friendships. I have always worshipped physical beauty. Hindus say that the gods are perpetual adolescents. For me, the glorification of love has always been inseparable from my sense of the divine.
For certain Christians, the important role that is given in these, my memoirs, to human affections and erotic encounters may seem to run counter to the pursuit of a spiritual life. With the passing of time I have come to understand that the state closest to godliness is to be found in love of divine creation, the beauty of the living body, and the intensity of happiness and pleasure.
