One young woman told me about an experience that she had undergone when she was two years old and had remembered from the day that it happened. She said that she had been born prematurely and weighed only two pounds at birth. It was not clear for the first several months of her life if she would survive, and she was fragile and was frequently ill for her first several years. She and her mother both remember the episode from when she was two years old. At that time, she was very ill with a high fever. She felt herself go down a tunnel toward a light. Her mother remembers her sitting up in bed with a big smile on her face and reaching upward with both arms as she said, "Light." The remembrance of the feeling of joy and peace that she had during that experience has been with her since that day.
