The Sacred Mushroom – Andrija Puharich

The other area of the world which has had a long tradition of the use of Amanita muscaria as an inebriant is eastern Siberia. The association of this geographical area and mushrooms with the previously found shamanistic tradition of separating the soul from the body appeared intriguing. I concentrated a great deal of research on this geographical area, beginning with the earliest known reference to the use of  Amanita muscaria in Siberia recorded by Philip Johan von Strahlenberg and published in Stockholm in 1730.

"An Historical and Geographical Description of the North and Eastern Parts of Europe and Asia, Particularly of Russia, Siberia, and Tartary” - Philip Johan von Strahlenberg, English translation, London, 1736.
