Estradiol, or more precisely, 17β-estradiol, is a steroid and estrogen sex hormone, and the primary female sex hormone. It is named for and is important in the regulation of the estrous and menstrual female reproductive cycles. Evamist is a transdermal spray containing estradiol. Estradiol is a form of estrogen, a female sex hormone that regulates many processes in the body. Each spray delivers 90 mcL which contains 1.53 mg of estradiol. Evamist is used to reduce moderate to severe hot flashes due to menopause.
